»Photography has timeless Relevance«

„When I look at a picture on Instagram - it's like listening to music from my old cassette recorder. When I look at a photo, printed and framed, on a nice white wall - it feels like I'm listening to music in a club.“

This is just my point of view.

I'm sure you've heard it over and over again in recent months/years: "Photography is dead." I am pretty often surprised  that this is more and more to hear —with a certain frequency— from current or former professional photographers. What might be reasons for that?

Because on the other hand: If you believe the smartphone manufacturers, there is already a contradiction to be found, since they have massively used the camera in the cellphone as one of their top selling points - for many years.

Perhaps it's also because we're inundated with images and quantity is more clearly distinguished from quality than ever before. Intemperance is not good in any area.

So wherever Instagram is heading- for me it has never been a suitable platform for what photography is really about, and just as little for really judging photos. Which is not surprising when you make the photos appear the size of a postage stamp.

Marketing, advertising, and above all influencing - yes, in this respect this platform has certainly fulfilled a certain, questionable purpose.

But this has hardly anything to do with the above-mentioned.

Anyone who says photography is a dying genre is unaware of what true photography is all about. Photography is not dead and will not die out. With a certain platform, on the other hand, things could develop differently.

But, who knows, in a time full of surprises. In a time full of changes.

Of course, all these are just my thoughts and is my point of view. I just love good photography too much.

Oh, and one final question.

Who would you rather meet for a beer? 400 »Instagram Friends« or 3 real ones?
